Tyson House Circles

NOOMA’s going to be a little different this week! Instead of meeting at Tyson House and watching Rob Bell, we’re all going to head over to the Baker Center (meet here at 6:45) to watch a documentary by Diana Saqeb. Ms. Diana Saqeb is a documentary filmmaker and leading women’s rights activist in Kabul, Afghanistan. More info here: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=105241032893516

Also, Diana Saqeb will be at Tyson House (yes Tyson House!!) this Thursday evening at 5p for relaxed conversation. Don’t miss it!

Thursday, April 7th- Immigrant and Refugee Rights
Hear from UT professors, representatives from Bridge Refugee Resettlement Agency and the TN Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition in a panel discussion regarding the challenges immigrants and refugees in our community face. The event will take place at 7:00 pm in Humanities and Social Sciences Building, Room 123.

We are planning to meet at 6:45 at Tyson House and then walk over to HSS together (that way, we can get seats next to each other). Alternatively, you could also just show up at HSS 123 at 7 as well.

NOOMA tonight at 7p!!!!

With everything that we’ve got going on every day, how many of us ever think about our breathing? Yet for thousands of years, people have understood that our physical breath is a picture of a deeper spiritual reality. In the Bible, the word for “breath” is the same as the word for “spirit.” This Tuesday we’ll be watching and discussing the video, BREATH. Maybe if we had more insight into the meaning of breathing, we would better understand how God created us as human beings.

No NOOMA this Tuesday! We encourage you all to attend Tyson House’s Shrove Tuesday (Marti Gras) Pancake Dinner instead at 6:04. Invite your friends! In my experience Fat Tuesday is one of the easiest events to invite folks to who don’t normally come to Tyson House. There’s free food (who doesn’t like pancakes?) and no absolutely strings attached (i.e. worship, bible study, etc.)

A lot of us have done things in our lives that we’re ashamed of. But no matter how big our junk is, no matter how much what we’ve done has impacted the way other people feel about us or how we feel about ourselves, it hasn’t changed how God feels about us. This Tuesday at NOOMA we’ll be talking about how God loves us, he always has and always will, and there’s nothing we can do to change that.

Why do we go to church? Because we’re supposed to? Because we think God needs it? Or perhaps because it makes us look good? This week at NOOMA we’ll be discussing how God doesn’t want meaningless rituals. God wants our hearts.
